2012 NASCAR Cup Series champion Brad Keselowski will address members of the media in a press conference scheduled for Saturday, October 31 at Martinsville Speedway, according to a statement released on Tuesday.
Keselowski has been a hot-button topic among the NASCAR industry for well over a month, after making the shocking announcement on September 29 that he would be departing RFK Racing – a team in which he co-owned by Jack Roush and Fenway Sports Group – and no longer piloting the No. 6 Ford Mustang Dark Horse.
Now, the Rochester Hills, Michigan-native is ready to publicly speak.
“The outpouring of support and interest in my future racing plans over the past few weeks has been truly humbling. From the bottom of my heart, thank you,” a statement from Keselowski reads. “I know there are still questions, and I plan to address several of them during my press conference Saturday morning at Martinsville Speedway.”
“I sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience, encouragement and continued support, it means more than you know.”
While Keselowski has, technically, spoken publicly about the pending separation between himself and RFK Racing, there hasn’t been a lot said about the nitty-gritty of it all. Immediately following the news broke of the split, the 36-time NASCAR Cup Series winner said he would be taking time to evaluate his options before announcing his future plans.
It is unclear whether Saturday’s press conference will be an official announcement of his plans moving forward, or more of a status update. Even with not much said on the front of the NASCAR Cup Series veteran, there have still been headlines a plenty.
On October 1st, Chris Rice, CEO of Kaulig Racing, adamantly shut down rumors on a guest appearance on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90 that Keselowski would be joining the organization – which has ties to Dodge, a manufacturer looking to come back into the sport and was a part of Keselowski’s 2012 championship.
Those claims from Rice, though, drew a lot of fire and doubt, considering past things he’s said in appearances on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio that haven’t matched with reality.
Just last week, Adam Stern of Sports Business Journal (SBJ) reported that Keselowski had put together a bid to try and purchase RFK Racing in its entirety, which, according to Stern was turned down by Jack Roush and John Henry (of Fenway Sports Group).
The exact time of Keselowski’s press conference for Saturday hasn’t been announced.
