2027 NASCAR Cup Series Driver / Team Chart

IT’S FINALLY TIME! Yes, it is only June, at least it is at the time of this page’s initial publishing. Still, there has already been some SERIOUS HEAT building surrounding the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series lineup, as several top-tier drivers and organizations are taking a look at options for next season. In fact, some teams are already making moves by signing contract extensions with drivers they believe are a must-have, and, in one case, confirming they’ll have free space heading into 2027.

Here’s a look at some of the storylines of this SILLY SEASON:

• HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS is the biggest team that could have a spot on its roster in 2027. Alex Bowman, driver of the No. 48, is in a contract year, and after missing races due to injury in 2022, 2023, and 2026, it’s unclear whether the Tucson, Arizona-native will return. Should he not, Corey Day and Connor Zilisch are the most likely replacements; however, Zilisch is under contract with Trackhouse Racing.
• Should Hendrick Motorsports be successful in hiring Connor Zilisch, TRACKHOUSE RACING would have an open seat in its No. 88 Chevrolet. However, that’s likely a “cross that bridge if we come to it” type of situation.
• RICHARD CHILDRESS RACING will have an open seat for 2027, after the unexpected passing of Kyle Busch on May 21. Austin Hill has been tapped to run the remainder of the year in the No. 33, and would be the logical option for 2027, but RCR does have time to evaluate what they want to do moving forward.
• FRONT ROW MOTORSPORTS has a pair of seats that could be open for next season, currently occupied by Noah Gragson and Todd Gilliland. That doesn’t guarantee change, but Bob Jenkins does have two talented youngsters in Chandler Smith and Layne Riggs waiting in the wings should a change be executed. Todd Gilliland has inked a contract extension with Front Row Motorsports.
• RFK RACING has a strong driver lineup in Brad Keselowski, Chris Buescher, and Ryan Preece, but faces a unique issue: finding a third charter. The organization has been clear that it’ll run three cars in 2027, even if the No. 60 has to run uncharted. Chris Buescher signed a multi-year contract extension with RFK Racing on June 16.
• WOOD BROTHERS RACING confirmed on June 10 that Josh Berry would not return to the organization in 2027, leaving the seat of the No. 21 Ford Mustang Dark Horse vacant for the time being. On June 17, Wood Brothers Racing announced it had signed Jesse Love to drive the No. 21 in 2027.
• LEGACY MOTOR CLUB is going to expand its operation to three full-time NASCAR Cup Series teams in 2027, adding the No. 84 to its existing roster with the No. 42 and No. 43. As far as the team’s driver lineup, a Rexel sponsorship release (distributed by LMC) said Nemechek would pilot the No. 42 in 2027. As for Jones, his contract to drive the No. 43 is up at season’s end, with renewal status currently unknown. Riley Herbst is the favorite to take over the third entry, but Jesse Love’s name has been tied to LMC as far back as last year.
• KAULIG RACING is a crapshoot at this point in the silly season proceedings, as the organization is supported by Dodge/RAM and currently running Chevrolets. It seems unlikely Dodge will have a program ready to go for 2027, so it seems as though it might be another lame-duck season for Kaulig. As far as drivers, AJ Allmendinger seems like a safe bet to return, but as far as the No. 10, the possibilities are limitless.
