Bayley Currey’s day job is being the car chief for the No. 1 truck, but he made the most of his second start of the season for Tricon Garage. Currey has made one other start this season, which was a 2nd at Bristol Motor Speedway.

At Charlotte Motor Speedway, Currey finished 7th in Stage 1 and 10th in Stage 2 in the No. 5 truck. In the later stages of the race, Currey was able to work his way into the top five with a fourth-place finish. The last time that Currey had multiple top-5s in a season was in 2023.

When asked about whether Currey felt the pressure of racing for a full-time job as a driver, he said, “I try not to put too much pressure on myself at the end of the day. I always got a good job and go back to be a truck chief. I want to win one of these things so bad just so I can say I did it. We’ve come close twice this year, and hopefully we’ll get some more shots at it.”

With what he needed to get ahead of either Layne Riggs or Kaden Honeycutt, Currey said, “It’s track position. I feel like I did a pretty decent job on restarts all night. I let [Christian Eckes] get to my right rear at one time. I told myself coming in, I won’t let anyone do that, and I let him do that.”

“I feel like both me and Kaden [Honeycutt] were spinning [tires] pretty bad on the bottom. We couldn’t quite get the run we did when we had stickers on. If we could have gone a little bit forward bite out of the restart zone, we might have been a little better off.”

When asked what he could take from being the car chief to the driver’s seat, Currey said, “How delicate these things are, and make sure that right rear quarter panel is exactly how it’s supposed to be. At Kansas, I was actually over the wall trying to fix the right rear quarter panel on Nick Leitz’s truck. We got into the fence and to see what those three strikes were in the hammer to help him out. It’s pretty wild.”

Even though Currey has not raced a lot in NASCAR this year, he has made the most of the truck starts that he did get.
