It appears that the ‘NASCAR’ chapter of Kasey Kahne’s career isn’t quite finished yet.

The 46-year-old driver is reportedly set to come out of retirement to compete full-time in the NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series in 2027, according to a Friday, October 2 report from Jordan Bianchi and The Athletic.

Per Bianchi, Kahne is “closing in on a deal” to return to full-time NASCAR competition with Spire Motorsports, where he would run the entire 25-race schedule and compete for a championship in NASCAR’s Truck Series.

Kahne spent nearly a decade and a half, from 2004 to 2018, competing in the NASCAR Cup Series for a variety of organizations, including Evernham Motorsports, Red Bull Racing, Richard Petty Motorsports, Hendrick Motorsports, and Leavine Family Racing.

In his first season driving the No. 95 for Leavine Family Racing, Kahne was forced to abruptly retire after dealing with health issues related to extreme dehydration, instead turning his focus to running shorter-distance races.

The Enumclaw, Washington-native showed signs of coming back into the NASCAR fray when he competed in a NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series event at Rockingham Speedway, driving the No. 33 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro for Richard Childress Racing, finishing 14th.

Kahne is an 18-time NASCAR Cup Series winner, an eight-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series winner, and a five-time winner in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, which, starting in 2027, will be known as the NASCAR FedEx Freight Truck Series.

It is unknown exactly what entry Kahne will drive, but Spire Motorsports announced earlier this week that its development driver, Tristan McKee, would run an expanded schedule in one of the team’s entries next year.
