Tempers flared in the Pro Late Model race at Tri-County Speedway.

TJ DeCaire and Conner Jones were battling for the lead when the No. 1 car of DeCaire and the No. 44 of Jones traded bumps with each other. Brody Monahan was able to pass both Jones and DeCaire to win his second career CARS Tour PLM race. Jones finished in second and DeCaire in third.

After the race, Jones and DeCaire were parked on the frontstretch for post-race interviews. A member from DeCaire’s crew came over to Conner Jones’s car while Jones was getting out. The officials and a sheriff separated the crew member from Jones, and the two drivers spoke to each other.

Jones said to DeCaire, “If I am not in the fucking points, you are fucking destroyed. You’re fucking destroyed. You’re fucking destroyed if I’m not in the points, motherfucker.”

After the PLM race, Jones went on to win the Late Model Stock Car race.

Asked about the incident, Jones said, “From my perspective, I passed him clean coming off [turn] two on the restart, and then he drives into my door. Then, every time he could, he would drive into my door.”

This wasn’t the first time that Jones felt like DeCaire raced him hard. At the previous PLM race at Florence Motor Speedway, Jones and DeCaire made contact as well. Jones said, “I think at Florence he drove me into the corner into [turn] one. Off the corner, he drove me down the backstretch. My tires were lifted off the ground. I can’t control that.”

Jones issued a warning to his competitors. “There’s only so much you can take, and I’ve been taking it all year,” Jones said. “So, I’m done taking stuff from people.”

TJ DeCaire declined to comment on the situation after the race.

The CARS Tour takes on Newport Speedway on October 3 with only two races for both divisions.
