It’s hard to deny Carson Kvapil is on a magical streak in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series.
The Mooresville, North Carolina-native has recorded top-three finishes in four of the last five events, and the one event that he didn’t finish top-three (Darlington), the driver of the No. 1 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet ended up winning his first career pole.
It’s been seven days since that first career pole in NASCAR’s second-tier division, and the JR Motorsports driver has already secured his second – being the fastest qualifier for Saturday’s Nu Way 225 at World Wide Technology Raceway.
“I feel really good about it. I feel like that lap wasn’t amazing, there’s no lap that is perfect, right, but I feel like my up-to-speed wasn’t great, and I made a few little mistakes on that lap, but it just goes to show how fast Rodney [Childers] and everyone on this No. 1 WILDE Protein Chips Chevrolet is this weekend, I mean, our car is really good, I thought Lap 2 of practice we were really good and it carried all the way to the end of our run, so really excited to get on track.”
With a lap time of 33.626 seconds (133.825mph), Kvapil was able to out-run defending NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion, Jesse Love, for the pole position in the second event of the nine-race Chase for The Championship. Kvapil was a tenth of a second faster than the RCR driver.
Sheldon Creed and Corey Day, the top-two finishers from the Chase-opener at Darlington Raceway, matched each other’s lap times exactly in qualifying, and will start from the third and fourth position, with points leader Justin Allgaier rounding out the top-five
Austin Hill will start Saturday night’s event from sixth, with non-chase drivers Harrison Burton and William Sawalich in seventh and eighth. Rajah Caruth will start ninth, with Brent Crews in the Owner’s Chase for The Championship with Joe Gibbs Racing, rounding out the top-10.
Drivers involved in The Chase for the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series championship that will start outside the top-10 on Saturday include Taylor Gray in 11th, Sammy Smith in 12th, Brandon Jones in 15th, Sam Mayer in 18th, and Parker Retzlaff in 19th.
The Nu Way 225 Sauced by Blues Hog will run Saturday, September 12 at 7:30 PM ET on The CW.
