Erik Jones hoped for his sixth top-10 finish of the season but instead wrecked with fewer than 10 laps to go at Daytona International Speedway.

Jones was running in contention for most of the race with a fourth-place finish in stage one.

With six laps to go, Jones put himself in a spot to get a good finish, as he was trying to get into the top 10. Suddenly, Carson Hocevar’s car spun out from the bottom of the race track and washed up in Jones’s path.

As he was stopping his damaged No. 43 car, Jones said on the radio:
“Fuck that dude. Never fucking works out.”

After getting checked out from the infield care center, Hocevar told reporters he was a lot tighter on entry with the new package and the nose kept setting in the corner where he lost control, according to video shared by Noah Lewis.

The wreck set up the race to be concluded in overtime. Hocevar ended up in 38th place, with Jones ending up in 39th place.
