Zane Smith doesn’t like Carson Hocevar… but that isn’t new information.
Following the checkered flag in Sunday’s Freeway Insurance 500 at Phoenix Raceway, Smith really showed his displeasure towards the Spire Motorsports driver after an on-track incident in the closing laps of the event, which drop-kicked the No. 38 outside the top 10.
The incident itself wasn’t a product of Hocevar overdriving Turn 1, but instead, a result of being shoved into the corner by Ross Chastain. The Chili’s-sponsored machine then slid up the racetrack into the side of both Josh Berry and Zane Smith.
Smith was told exactly that after the race, and said, “I don’t give a fuck.”
But, to show his displeasure after the checkered flag, Smith stayed in the throttle down the backstretch, found the No. 77 and SLAMMED into the rear end of Hocevar at nearly full speed.
Neither driver escalated the incident further, but the No. 38 spotter warned the Front Row Motorsports crew about the incident, telling them to be by the two cars in case further confrontation broke out.
