Caution flags were a rare sight in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Only four cautions flew, including stage breaks, even though two different spins occurred during the race.
At the start of the race, the outside row of cars stacked up. At the tail end of the field were Cody Ware starting 34th and Noah Gragson, in a backup car, starting 36th. Gragson in the No. 4 car moved right to avoid hitting the slower cars but made contact with the No. 51 car of Ware. Ware spun to the grass and was able to get going. No caution flag came out. A few laps after the spin, Ware said on the radio that he had flat-spotted the tires and had a vibration. Ware would end up with a 34th-place finish.
At the end of stage 1, Denny Hamlin got loose and lost control of his car in turns 3 and 4. He was in line for stage points, running 4th before the spin. Again, no caution flag flew. Hamlin finished 27th in stage 1. During the stage caution, Hamlin let out a quick F-bomb on the radio. He recovered from the spin to finish 16th but lost ground in the points battle with Kyle Larson, who scored 14 more points than Hamlin. Hamlin is now 40 points behind in the Chase.
