In the early stages of Saturday’s NASCAR Canada Series event at Circuit ICAR, Alex Guenette, a native of Terrebonne, Quebec, has been able to take the fight to championship leader and season dominator, Marc-Antoine Camirand, by leading practice and winning the pole for the NAPA 100.
Guenette stormed to the pole position on Saturday, with a blazingly fast lap time of 1:04.76, nearly a full half-second quicker than Kevin Lacroix and Alex Tagliani, who qualified second and third.
Andrew Ranger was the fourth-fastest driver in the field, with L.P Dumoulin rounding out the top-five drivers for the start of the event. Marc-Antoine Camirand, the championship leader who has won seven of the 11 races in the NASCAR Canada Series this season, will start in sixth.
Justin Arseneau will start seventh in the No. 8 for Ed Hakonson Racing, with Mathieu Kingsbury, J.P. Bergeron, and Simon Charbonneau rounding out the top 10. Some other notables in the field include D.J. Kennington (starting 11th), Sam Fellows (starting 12th), Jared Odrick (starting 15th), and Herby Drescher, the fan-favorite (starting 24th).
Guenette, driving the No. 39 DLGL / GL Electricte-Automatisation Chevrolet, was also the quickest driver in Saturday’s NASCAR Canada Series practice session at Circuit ICAR. Marc-Antoine Camirand was second-quickest in the session, but just three-hundredths of a second behind Guenette.
Kevin Lacroix, Andrew Ranger, and L.P Dumoulin rounded out the top five. Justin Arsenau, Mathieu Kingsbury, Connor Bell, Simon Charbonneau, and Alex Tagliani completed the top-10.
