Last year, Layne Riggs led 160 laps en-route to the victory at Indianapolis Raceway Park. This year, the Front Row Motorsports driver exceeded that mark.
The Bahama, North Carolina-native pulled off a masterclass performance during Friday’s TSPORT 200 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park, sweeping both stages and leading 198 of the 200 laps to pick up his fifth win of the year.
It’s the tenth career victory for Riggs in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, his fourth in the last seven races, and the 22nd for Front Row Motorsports.
Outside of the stage breaks, the race produced only one natural caution, which occurred on Lap 138 after Cole Butcher made contact with Daniel Hemric in Turn 3, causing Hemric to spin and collect Landen Lewis in the process.
Another incident occurred in the final laps which involved Grant Enfinger, Andres Perez de Lara, and Kris Wright, after all three drivers got into the outside wall after a three-wide situation in Turn 1 with two laps to go. No caution was thrown and the race continued on.
For Riggs, it’s his second consecutive win at IRP, and explained that he and his team are putting together race-winning performances week in and week out.
“I think they’re just statement wins,” Riggs said post-race. “Man, what a truck. I was on cruise control there for so much of the race.”
Riggs stated that he struggled to pull away from Connor Mosack, who was running in second, as he was navigating through some heavy lap traffic.
“[Connor Mosack] kept me honest there at the end,” Riggs said. “Those last 15-ish laps in traffic, I was running as hard as I could and I couldn’t get away from him. I know we had a pretty good gap.”
Mosack was able to close the gap slightly on Riggs, but it wasn’t enough at the end. He rallied to a career-best second place finish.
Ty Majeski, a two-time winner at IRP, came home with a solid third-place effort. Chandler Smith and Nick Sanchez (in his series return) finished fourth and fifth.
Stewart Friesen, Kaden Honeycutt, Gavan Boschele (in his series debut), Tyler Ankrum, and Michael Christopher Jr. rounded out the top-10.
Leaving Indianapolis, Riggs now has a 100-point advantage over Honeycutt with two races left in the regular season.
The NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series will take a few weeks off before they return to action on Friday, August 14, at Richmond Raceway for the eero 250. Coverage for the event will take place at 7:30 PM ET on FOX Sports 1.
