Kyle Busch has been ruled out of this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series (Coca-Cola 600) and NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (North Carolina Education Lottery 200) events at Charlotte Motor Speedway, as he deals with a severe illness.

“Kyle [Busch] has experienced a severe illness resulting in hospitalization,” a statement posted to his personal social media reads. “He is currently undergoing treatment and will not compete in any of his scheduled activities this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway. We ask for understanding and privacy as our family navigates this situation.”

Austin Hill, a full-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series driver for Richard Childress Racing, will serve as the fill-in driver for Busch in the No. 8 Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 in the Coca-Cola 600 — the longest NASCAR Cup Series event of the season.

A statement from Richard Childress Racing reads: “Kyle Busch’s health is our utmost priority, and he and his family have the full resources of RCR behind them. Kyle is an integral part of our organization, and we wish him a safe and speedy recovery. His No. 8 Chevrolet will be ready and waiting for him. We’re thankful to Austin Hill for stepping in to drive the No. 8 Chevrolet this weekend. Please keep Kyle and the Busch family in your prayers, and help us respect the family’s privacy at this time.”

Busch is also scheduled to compete in Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Charlotte in the No. 7 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Silverado RST for Spire Motorsports. The organization has yet to confirm who will take the place of Busch for Friday’s activities.

The Richard Childress Racing (RCR) driver enters the Coca-Cola 600 sitting 24th-place in NASCAR Cup Series point standings. Busch hasn’t missed a NASCAR Cup Series event in more than a decade, when he missed 12 after breaking his leg in a wreck at Daytona.

Additional updates will be added to this story as they are received.
