NASCAR has laid down the law following last Sunday’s XFINITY 500 at Martinsville.
Both Josh Berry (No. 21 Wood Brothers Racing) and Carson Hocevar (No. 77 Spire Motorsports) have been penalized according to Sections 4.4A of the NASCAR Cup Series Rule Book, in regard to “actions detrimental to stock car racing”.
Berry has been fined $50,000 and assessed with the loss of 25 NASCAR Cup Series driver points for his actions in Sunday’s event, where, following contact from Ryan Blaney behind him, the Wood Brothers Racing driver stomped on the brakes, ending the No. 12’s day.
Hocevar, on the other hand, has gotten a steeper penalty; with NASCAR citing that Hocevar had multiple violations of the code of contact. The Portage, Michigan-native has been fined $100,000 and assessed with the loss of 25 NASCAR Cup Series driver points.
Spire Motorsports, earlier on Tuesday, already decided that it would independently decide to sideline Carson Hocevar for his actions, and kick him out of the No. 77 Spectrum Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship Race at Homestead. Justin Haley will drive the car instead.
The penalty drops Hocevar from 12th to 13th in NASCAR Cup Series point standings heading into this weekend’s event, and knocks Josh Berry from 21st to 22nd.
