In a season of the world versus Carson Hocevar, Hocevar added another driver upset with him after the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway.

Hocevar started 25th and ran in the mid-20s for most of the race. During Stage 2, both Austin Cindric and Hocevar pitted under the green flag. The two drivers were trying to split the stage while some leaders had not yet pitted. On lap 199, Hocevar spun in Turn 4 bringing out the caution. He described the car on the radio as “Undriveable.” Cindric and Hocevar were trapped two laps down.

Cindric took the wave-around to be one lap down while Hocevar was still two laps down. On the following restart, Cindric bumped Hocevar’s bumper a couple of times. During the next couple of laps, Hocevar brake-checked Cindric about four times. Cindric’s hood was bent up, and he came down to pit road to remove it.

Under the caution caused by Christopher Bell and Denny Hamlin spinning in Turn 1, Cindric said on the radio about Hocevar brake-checking him, “NASCAR, what are we doing? We are weaponizing cars here. Guys stack up on entry, and a guy has a mental breakdown.”

Cindric did not finish the race and was credited with a 36th-place finish. Hocevar salvaged a 21st-place finish.

After the race, Hocevar did not take blame for the incident with Cindric, instead pointing to the nature of the racing at Martinsville.

“It’s Martinsville,” Hocevar told reporters. “Everyone is running hard and making moves. It’s Martinsville. Sometimes, you are getting hit, and sometimes you are causing hits.”
