Mother Nature has gone three-for-three in NASCAR National Series qualifying from Bristol Motor Speedway, with a lightning hold (and a brief rain shower) forcing the cancellation of NASCAR Cup Series practice from “The Last Great Coliseum”.
Just like the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series, whose sessions were also cancelled due to extended lightning holds, the starting lineup for Saturday’s Bass Pro Shops Night Race will be decided by NASCAR’s Performance Metric.
Kyle Larson, winner of last weekend’s event at World Wide Technology Raceway, will lead the field to green at Bristol on Saturday evening, a racetrack where he’s won recently in dominant fashion. Joey Logano will start on the outside of the front row.
Denny Hamlin will roll from third-place, with William Byron fourth, and Carson Hocevar completing the top-five. Alex Bowman, Ross Chastain, Austin Cindric, Austin Dillon, and Bubba Wallace will complete the top-10.
Other drivers in the NASCAR Cup Series Chase that won’t start in the top-10, due to a poor finishing position from last weekend at Gateway include Christopher Bell (12th), Ty Gibbs (13th), Ryan Preece (16th), Tyler Reddick (20th), Chris Buescher (23rd), Chase Briscoe (26th), Chase Elliott (27th), Daniel Suarez (28th), and Ryan Blaney (29th).
Josh Bilicki, driving the No. 66 Ford Mustang for Garage 66 this weekend, will start shotgun on the field, in 37th.
The Bass Pro Shops Night Race will take place Saturday, September 19 at 7:30 PM ET on USA Sports.
