Hendrick Motorsports, the winningest organization in the 77-year history of the NASCAR Cup Series, is set to bring back a substantial piece of its legacy, and an attribute that, for many years, connected fans to the Hendrick brand.
Beginning next February, with The Wheatley Vodka Clash at Daytona International Speedway, all four of Hendrick Motorsports’ NASCAR Cup Series entries, plus the organization’s single NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series entry, will feature the neon yellow numbers that Hendrick-prepared vehicles carried for several years.
It’s been two decades (2007) since the last time that Hendrick Motorsports had all four of its NASCAR Cup Series entries (then the No. 5, No. 24, No. 25, and No. 48) carrying the neon yellow numbers for a full-time campaign, and it was one of the team’s best seasons ever, with 18 wins, 11 poles, 57 top-fives, and a seventh championship courtesy of Jimmie Johnson.
In fact, 193 of the 323 NASCAR Cup Series victories that Hendrick Motorsports has managed to collect throughout its iconic four-decade tenure in NASCAR, have come with neon yellow numbers on the car.
While the neon yellow numbers have never been displayed for a full season on the No. 9, seeing as Hendrick Motorsports adopted that number in the late-2010s for Chase Elliott, the sport’s Most Popular Driver did win his championship with a neon No. 9, as the team was celebrating the retirement of seven-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson.
Hendrick Motorsports’ 2027 NASCAR National Series driver lineup is as follows:
Kyle Larson returns to the No. 5 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro, Chase Elliott will continue driving the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro, William Byron will remain behind the wheel of the No. 24 Axalta Chevrolet Camaro, and Alex Bowman will kick off his final season of full-time NASCAR Cup Series competition in the No. 48 Ally Financial Chevrolet Camaro.
Corey Day will drive the No. 17 HendrickCars.com Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series. Day will also run some NASCAR Cup Series events for Spire Motorsports.
