The NASCAR Cup Series will begin The Chase with Sunday’s Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, which will take place after zero on-track time.

A combination of the inclement weather in the area, as well as the lightning clock being active, forced NASCAR to cancel all on-track activity before the drop of the green flag in Sunday’s event at Darlington.

The starting lineup for the Cook Out Southern 500 will be determined by the NASCAR Cup Series Rule Book – which dictates the performance metric will be used. Tyler Reddick, driver of the No. 45 Toyota Camry XSE for 23XI Racing, will start from the pole on Sunday.

Daniel Suarez, who finished runner-up in last Saturday’s Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway, will roll from the outside of the front row on the initial start, with Daytona winner Ryan Preece starting third.

Denny Hamlin will start fourth, and Michael McDowell will start fifth, the highest driver in the starting order not eligible for the championship. Austin Cindric, Chase Briscoe, Ricky Stenhouse, Jr., Austin Dillon, and Alex Bowman will round out the top-10 starters.

With the metric being based off the most-recent race, at Daytona, a number of the 16 drivers in The Chase for the NASCAR Cup Series Championship will start from outside the top-10, including Christopher Bell (11th), Joey Logano (13th), Bubba Wallace (17th), Chase Elliott (18th), William Byron (20th), Ryan Blaney (24th), Kyle Larson (25th), Ty Gibbs (28th), Carson Hocevar (34th), and Chris Buescher (35th).

The Cook Out Southern 500 will take place Sunday, September 6 at 5:00 PM ET on USA Sports.
