John Hunter Nemechek will not return to LEGACY MOTOR CLUB in 2027, per a report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic on Tuesday.
Nemechek, who has spent the last three seasons piloting the No. 42 Toyota Camry XSE in the NASCAR Cup Series, will not be a part of the team’s three-driver lineup for next season.
The 29-year-old driver is a 24-time NASCAR National Series winner (13 in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and 11 in the NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series). Nemechek’s three-year stint with LEGACY marked his second stint in Cup, after running with Front Row Motorsports in 2020.
A native of Mooresville, North Carolina, and the son of 1992 NASCAR Busch Series champion Joe Nemechek, he notably chose to step away from a multi-year NASCAR Cup Series contract with Front Row Motorsports after 2020 to pursue a deal with Toyota Racing USA, which saw him climb the ranks from Trucks to O’Reilly and into the Cup Series.
In 98 NASCAR Cup Series starts with LEGACY MOTOR CLUB, Nemechek has recorded three top five finishes and 14 top-10s, which includes a career-best points position of 25th place.
It’s unknown exactly who will replace Nemechek at this time, but Tuesday’s report from Jordan Bianchi indicates that Josh Berry is a leading contender. Where Nemechek will end up in 2027 is also unknown.
