For the first time since 1971, Bowman Gray Stadium (AKA “The Madhouse”) will be hosting a points-paying NASCAR National Series event, when the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series visits Winston-Salem, North Carolina in August 2027.

The iconic quarter-mile racetrack located in North Carolina was the host of The Clash, NASCAR’s pre-season exhibition event for the NASCAR Cup Series in 2025 and 2026. However, beginning in 2027, the event will be moving back to Daytona International Speedway.

Bowman Gray Stadium will host the drivers and teams of the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series as part of the racetrack’s regular season, on Friday, August 20. The event will mark the first time that a NASCAR National Series, aside from the Cup Series, will visit the iconic short track.

Between 1958 and 1971, Bowman Gray Stadium was the host to 29 different NASCAR Cup Series events, six of which were won by Rex White – the track’s winningest NASCAR driver. Richard Petty won the last points-paying event held at the track, in 1971.

Chase Elliott and Ryan Preece won the two iterations of “The Clash” held at the racetrack.

From 2011 to 2015, the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East also visited Bowman Gray Stadium, with winners including Matt DiBenedetto, Corey LaJoie, Ben Kennedy, Ben Rhodes, and Scott Heckert.

A trip to Bowman Gray Stadium is a first for the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, and a part of a diverse 2027 schedule for the series that includes a return trip to Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario – which will occur just two weeks after the inaugural event at Bowman Gray.
