The Clash, NASCAR’s pre-season exhibition event, is returning to its traditional venue in 2027, Daytona International Speedway, according to a report from Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic.

Originally created in the late 1970s as a made-for-television event that was held one week before the DAYTONA 500, The Clash was held at Daytona International Speedway’s 2.5-mile superspeedway for several decades, until NASCAR decided to move away from its superspeedway carnage after 2020.

The event was held at the Daytona Road Course in 2021, before moving to a purpose-built quarter-mile racetrack inside of L.A. Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles, California for 2022, 2023, and 2024, and then to the always popular Bowman-Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for 2025 and 2026.

NASCAR has not officially revealed the 2027 NASCAR Cup Series schedule yet, but is expected to do so over the next couple of weeks, per this report from The Athletic. However, if last season’s early portion of the schedule is retained, that would put three superspeedway events back-to-back-to-back – The Clash at Daytona, the DAYTONA 500, and then the Spring date at EchoPark Speedway.

The event is slated to take place on Saturday, February 13 – the night before Super Bowl LXI, and exactly a week before the 2027 DAYTONA 500 on February 21.

According to Bianchi, an official announcement of The Clash’s return to Daytona International Speedway is expected within the next couple of weeks, but one of the final holdups is due to final negotiations with a new partner expected to sponsor the pre-season exhibition event.

Since NASCAR first moved the race to the LA Memorial Coliseum in 2022, the sanctioning body has required all 36 Chartered Entries to participate in the event and has done so every year since. It is unknown if that will happen once again, or what eligibility criteria will be for the pre-season race.
