Defending NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series champion Jesse Love was the quickest driver in Saturday’s practice session at Chicagoland Speedway, driving the No. 2 Whelen Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.
Love posted the fastest time of the session, a 31.118-second, 173.533mph lap, in the opening seconds of Saturday’s practice, which was postponed a day due to inclement weather. This practice session took the place of qualifying.
ZILISCH, CREWS TO SHARE FRONT ROW AFTER NOAPS SCHEDULE REARRANGED
The Menlo Park, California-native had an advantage of nearly three tenths of a second in the session over Jordan Anderson Racing driver Jeb Burton, who put the No. 27 Bommarito.com Chevrolet second on the board.
JR Motorsports teammates Justin Allgaier and Connor Zilisch (who is on the pole for Saturday’s Cuervo 300 due to NASCAR’s Performance Metric) were third and fourth quickest, with Corey Day rounding out the top-five.
Jeremy Clements, William Sawalich, Sam Mayer, Brandon Jones, and Chase Elliott completed the top-10 in the session.
NASCAR Cup Series full-timer Cole Custer, driving the No. 0 Chevrolet in a collaboration between Haas Factory Team and SS-Greenlight Racing, was the only driver to have an incident during the session, spinning off Turn 4 and damaging the front-end of his vehicle. Custer ranked 15th in the session.
Chase Elliott was the most productive driver in the session, turning 58 laps.
The Cuervo 300 will take place Saturday, July 4 at 5:30 PM ET on The CW.
