Tanner Gray will be working with a different crew chief in Friday’s NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series event at Phoenix Raceway, TRICON Garage has confirmed to JosephSrigley.com.

Jeff Hensley, who has been leading the No. 15 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro team since the beginning of 2024, will not be making the trip to Avondale, Arizona this weekend due to an illness, and will thus hand over shot-calling duties to long-time TRICON Garage employee Jacob Hampton.

Hampton has recorded 36 races of experience as a crew chief in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, working first with Taylor Gray in the second half of the 2023 campaign, before being promoted to the full-time crew chief of the No. 1 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro in 2025.

Friday’s 150-lap contest won’t be the first time that the eldest of the Gray brothers has worked with Hampton, though. In 2021, Hampton worked one race as the crew chief for the No. 15 at Nashville Superspeedway, where together the pairing recorded an 18th-place finish.

Gray is currently in his seventh year competing full-time in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series, in which time he’s collected 13 top-fives and 36 top-10s. This season, the Artesia, New Mexico-native is sitting 14th in NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series points on the strength of three top-10 finishes – at Charlotte, Lime Rock, and Kansas.

The Zero Carbon Bioethanol 150 Powered by POET at Phoenix Raceway is scheduled to take place Friday, October 16 at 7:30 PM ET on FOX Sports 2.
