In what looked like was going to be a comfortable win for Trevor Huddleston, it was Ethan Nascimento who prevailed on a late restart to score the upset victory in his first series start since 2024.

Driving the No. 4 Chevrolet SS for his family-owned team, Nascimento started at the rear and was not much of a factor throughout the majority of the first half. It wasn’t until the final half when he made his way through the field, eventually reaching as high as second with 38 laps to go.

Race leader Trevor Huddleston was caught up by lap traffic, giving Nascimento a chance to battle. A late caution came out after a spin from Ian Wood with 16 laps to go, resulting in a six lap shootout.

Nascimento started on the inside of Huddleston, and they stayed side by side for that entire run. It was Nascimento who came out on top after edging out Huddleston at the line. This was the first career win for Nascimento, and the first for his family-owned organization.

“I’m sorry I had to do that to Trevor, but this is my first ever win,” Nascimento said post-race. “I haven’t been in an ARCA car for about two years, so it’s good to be back. Started dead last due to a part issue with the clutch, but we drove it to the front. Knew we were fast.”

Prior to Saturday’s race, Nascimento was not expected to compete until he received a call on Wednesday to run as a late entry.

“I want to thank my dad, my mom, my uncle Roger Brackett, everyone that works in the shop,” Nascimento said post-race. “We got the call on Wednesday to bring this car out and we knew we were going to be fast. We busted our butts and we brought a really fast race car.”

Huddleston believed that he had the car to beat, and was slightly irritated with the contact from Nascimento, but was relieved that it did not end with a bad points day.

“It was an epic race,” Huddleston said post-race. “We had a good long run car and it obviously showed. You can’t win them all. Big picture night for us. I think we gained a lot of points, which is the main thing. Congrats to Ethan. I know he’s been working on that for a while. Once or twice, ‘hey to you bud’. The fourth time is when I got a little upset.”

Hailie Deegan, who was in a position to potentially sneak past Huddleston and Nascimento if they had slipped up the track, settled for her second consecutive third place finish. Last year’s All American Speedway winner Robbie Kennealy and Will Robinson rounded out the top-five positions.

Cole Denton was not able to repeat his streak of winning the race from the pole position, and settled for the sixth spot. Eric Johnson Jr., Andrew Chapman, Josiah Reaume, and Donald Witkowski completed the top-10 spots.

Mason Massey was plagued by a blown engine on lap 87, ending his race and resulting in a 17th-place finish. This allowed Huddleston to extend his points gap by 35 points for the ARCA Menards Series West championship with four races remaining.

The ARCA Menards Series West competitors will be back in action on September 26 at Madera Speedway.
