On lap 224 of the NASCAR Cup Series race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Michael McDowell and Riley Herbst made contact into turn 3. Herbst slammed the outside wall with the rear of the car.
After the contact with Herbst, McDowell said on the radio, “That wasn’t a smart move on his part.”
Herbst’s car sat there for a few seconds before Connor Zilisch’s car came barreling in on the high side of the track right into Herbst’s No. 35 car. Zilisch’s car was the next-to-last car in the pack when McDowell and Herbst made contact, about 12 cars in front of him.
While Zilisch was slowing down the car, he said on the radio, “I’m so fucking horrible. Gosh, what am I doing?”
Herbst and Zilisch finished 34th and 35th, respectively, while McDowell finished 16th on the lead lap.
