Chase Elliott and Christopher Bell have emerged from their race cars seemingly unscathed after a horrible accident in the closing laps of Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway.

With 52 laps remaining in Sunday’s event, Bell and Elliott were battling for the runner-up position when the driver of the No. 9 Chevrolet snapped loose and overcorrected, hurling both him and Bell towards the outside SAFER Barrier.

Piloting the No. 20 Rheem Toyota Camry XSE slammed into the outside wall with incredible force, and then was drilled in the driver-side door by Elliott, who shot up the racetrack right after him and took ANOTHER significant impact.

Bell and Elliott quickly escaped from the cars without assistance and were brought, by ambulance, to the infield care center. Elliott has since been checked and released, while Christopher Bell is still being evaluated as of the time of publishing.

The impact was so substantial that it damaged the outside SAFER Barrier in Turn 3, which forced NASCAR to throw the red flag for 20-plus minutes to make repairs.

After climbing from the No. 9 NAPA Auto Parts Series Chevrolet, Elliott walked over to Bell and checked on him after the ridiculous impact that was taken in that accident.

This is a developing story. Quotes will be added as they become available.
