For the second consecutive year, the Mechanix Wear Pit Crew Challenge has a surprise winner.

Front Row Motorsports and the crew that pits Zane Smith’s No. 38 Ford Mustang Dark Horse in the NASCAR Cup Series, have won the $100,00 prize, after having the fastest four-tire pit stop during All-Star Qualifying at Dover Motor Speedway.

The five-man crew put together a line-to-line stop time of 12.612 seconds, which is more than two-tenths of a second quicker than the second-fastest pit crew, which belonged to the Shane Van Gisbergen and Trackhouse Racing’s No. 97 crew.

Ray Hernandez (Fueler), Adam Riley (Rear Changer), Nathan McBride (Jackman), Michael Louria (Front Changer), and Jarren Davis (Tire Carrier) make up the crew members who put together that stellar pit stop.

“It means everything to us. We take a lot of pride in our job. We work hard, everybody at our company does, so to be able to do it on the one chance you get for the whole season, it’s a big deal,” Hernandez told FOX Sports’ Jamie Little. “We had a good stop last season [at North Wilkesboro], it kind of didn’t work out the way we wanted it to, though, we finished third. So, to finish first is a huge deal for us.”

The No. 38 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, led by crew chief Ryan Bergenty, is the only Front Row Motorsports team that gets their pit crews from Joe Gibbs Racing, instead of from Team Penske, like the No. 4 and No. 34 do. Those two teams finished 21st and 28th in the Pit Crew Challenge, respectively.

When all 36 NASCAR Cup Series teams had made a run at the Pit Crew Challenge, six different organizations were represented inside the top six; Front Row Motorsports (No. 38 Zane Smith), Trackhouse Racing (No. 97 Shane Van Gisbergen), RFK Racing (No. 17 Chris Buescher), 23XI Racing (No. 23 Bubba Wallace), Joe Gibbs Racing (No. 11 Denny Hamlin), and Hendrick Motorsports (No. 24 William Byron).

Trackhouse Racing, Hendrick Motorsports, and Joe Gibbs Racing made up the remainder of the top-10 positions, though, with Ross Chastain, Kyle Larson, Alex Bowman, and Ty Gibbs.

The results of the Mechanix Wear Pit Crew Challenge will be the order in which pit selection happens for Sunday’s NASCAR All-Star Race.

Ryan Blaney, Chase Elliott, Daniel Suarez, and John Hunter Nemechek all had their pit stop times disallowed for various reasons, while Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. and AJ Allmendinger didn’t get the opportunity to post a pit stop time.

After horrific pit stops, both Blaney (Safety Violation) and Elliott (Uncontrolled Tire) had pit road penalties. Daniel Suarez and John Hunter Nemechek left pit road with wheels improperly secured – to the points where Suarez finished his lap, sailed his car off into Turn 1, and slammed the wall when the right-front tire came loose on his No. 7 Spire Motorsports Chevrolet.

Zane Smith, despite his crew winning the Pit Crew Challenge, received a penalty for speeding on pit road, and will start the NASCAR All-Star Race from 25th. Without that 10-second penalty, though, the Front Row Motorsports driver would have edged Hamlin for the pole.
