Brendan Gaughan is returning to the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series for a one-off race with McAnally-Hilgemann Racing, driving the No. 20 South Point Casino & Hotel Chevrolet Silverado RST.
An eight-time NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series and two-time NASCAR O’Reilly Auto Parts Series winner, Gaughan returns to a series he hasn’t competed in for more than 10 years.
“This is so cool to come back and race in a truck again for Bill,” Gaughan said. “We’ve got a ton of history together, tons of great memories, and this is going to be something we’ll talk about for a long time. Ever since I heard the race at Coronado was going to happen, I knew I wanted to run something, and I’m just glad Bill and I were able to make this happen. This is a great chance for the NASCAR community to celebrate and recognize our military with a unique event, and I wanted to be a part of it.”
Gaughan, a native of Las Vegas, Nevada, has not competed in a NASCAR National Series event since the end of 2020, when his NASCAR Cup Series tenure driving the No. 62 for Beard Motorsports ended.
The last time the 50-year-old driver competed in the NASCAR CRAFTSMAN Truck Series was at the end of his full-time campaign driving the No. 62 South Point Chevrolet Silverado for Richard Childress Racing in 2013.
Gaughan, as an Honorary Squadron Commander for the U.S. Air Force Combat Control Team, will feature their logo on the bed of the No. 20 in San Diego. A long-time friend and a former Georgetown football teammate of Gaughan’s, Captain (Ret.) Ryan Shann, spent the majority of his 28-year career in the Navy stationed at Naval Amphibious Base Coronado, and was the Commanding Officer of Seal Team 1 in 2015-2016.
